Cans galore!

Posted by Ryan

INTERACT 5170,

I am ecstatic hear that many clubs are doing can collection! Please weigh the can (in lbs and pictures of all your cans would also be cool) and then you can drop them off at one of the food shelters in the post below. There will also be a Community Service Submission sheet that club presidents will be responsible for filling out the amount of food donated (lbs), hours, and membership.

Peace out .

Community Project 2010-11: Hunger Relief

Posted by Ryan

Interact District 5170 unveils the Community Service Project for 2010 – 2011: Hunger Relief. Throughout the Bay Area, communities are inflicted with poverty and many families are forced to compromise their hunger in order to afford the necesities to live. However, Interact is here to help! Interact 5170 is the world’s largest and most renown Interact district with over 90 clubs and 5,000 members stretching across northern California. In 2009-10, Interact 5170 contributed more than 50,000 of volunteer hours towards community service and raised $75,000 for END POLIO NOW. This year, Interact plans to achieve 100,000 volunteer hours and raise $50,000 for Shelter Box. Interact plans to help end the suffering of families that are in need of food and shelter, not only Internationally, but also in the Community. Our Community and International Projects tie in with this year’s Rotary theme: Building Communities, Bridging Continents. Video Created by Victor Kwok, Digital Media Coordinator(A13). Starring Ryan Wang, Community Service Coordinator (A6) and Kevin Gao(A13).

And now what will you do?

Take Flight For Kids!

Posted by Ryan

HELLO INTERACT 5170!

I would like to present you guys with the first ever, district-wide community service event: Take Flight for Kids Festival!

When: Saturday, September 25th, 2010. (8:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.)

Where: Reid Hillview Airport in San Jose (the airport next to EASTRIDGE)

2500 Cunningham Ave, San Jose,CA

Why: This festival is to inform the middle school students and families of Silicon Valley of the Science, Technology, Engineering education opportunities, community resources for families in need, and to promote Interact and Rotary throughout San Jose. There will be about 200 exhibits with hands-on activities for the students to learn about, and about 5,000 attendees expected, so you can imagine how busy it will be!

Volunteering: Please advertise this event to all your clubs and encourage others to go! A festival does not come often, and one this large where Interact receives this caliber of representation is a must. Have all of the volunteers register at http://www.takeflightforkids.com/volunteer.htm and please send me an email(communityservice@interact5170.org)  if you are going so I can get a good number to report back to the coordinator. We will be recording your hours, so if you sign in with me, I will relay your information back to your area director and club president

“We may need some help on Friday afternoon (2pm – 7pm) , 9/24, with things at the airport if you have volunteers who might be able to help with that.”

Here is a brief agenda that is subject to change:
