Interact D5170. It’s been a while! I want to first start off saying that I hope everyone is having a great thanksgiving break. In a club of community service, we do our best to give back, and while it’s key stay thankful for all that we have, I think it’s important we recognize everything we have done. I want to thank everyone for all the hard work you’ve put into fundraising, promoting, and providing a better future for the next generation.
FREE THE YOUTH was an idea that came to us through the process of creating our project. I was stuck on the idea of making this year better than it ever was. I knew D5170 deserved nothing less than that. What better to help the world, than through the children of today. They are the future; we are the future.
It’s been a wonderful opportunity thus far to meet with representatives from both Mary’s Meals and Firelight Foundation. We have a lot in store. However, I know the works of these projects have not been relayed to you on a continual basis, but I promise from here on that the D5170 community will be the first to know what’s next to come.
Let me give a brief recap of the year so far:
FLC – IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE. Spectacular that 2400+ people were in that one auditorium. I can say you all look great starting down at Will and I. Joking aside, keep that enthusiasm coming.
After that, we’ve been working with Firelight on this project that will feature Interact D5170 happenings on their home website. This blog will update regularly. Let this be incentive to keep working hard and publishing what work you’ve done! Send anything FREE THE YOUTH related from pictures to videos, be it about fundraisers or movie nights, or even just something special during your club meetings, to International@interact5170.org. Will and I might publish your work on right here on the district website! And if Firelight decides to feature you, you could appear on their blog.
Here’s the first post covering FLC: http://blog.firelightfoundation.org/2011/10/21/young-philanthropists-free-the-youth-2/
Moreover, with Mary’s Meals, their founder Magnus, will be on a CNN Heroes Thanksgiving Night special called ‘A Celebration of Giving’, with the programme touching on the most recent developments at Mary’s Meals, including their response to the famine in Somalia and the wider East African crisis. The CNN special will air on Thursday (Nov 24). Check it out!
As well, they’ve updated their website! Mary’s Meals now has a new and improved home page for all different countries to go to their respective languages.
There’s a lot of exciting news to bring, and I’ll be back to update all of you. I’ve just recently finished up a FREE THE YOUTH PowerPoint to CLEARLY define our project and what we are doing. I know their is some discrepancy. It’s okay! Each year is different, and thus needs to be explained over again. That will be uploaded shortly!
Once again, have a great break everyone, stay thankful; stay hungry.
