Free the Youth Pins

Posted by Emily

Purchase Independence high school’s very own FREE THE YOUTH  pins have finally come in! {Designed by their very own Deewie Penaflor (Grade 11)} So I asked Deewie, WHY DANDELIONS?

“When I think of dandelions, I think about hope. As a little kid, I always remembered making my wishes on dandelions as I blew away the dozens of seeds. I never made realistic wishes. I was just a kid! But now that I’m older, I stopped making my wishes on dandelions. But this year, my wish is to help FREE THE YOUTH. And hey, even though I don’t make my wishes on dandelions anymore doesn’t mean it doesn’t work! As a kid, these wishes gave me hope because I looked forward to them coming true. They remind me of WISHING, HOPING, & DREAMING. All my faith were in these dandelions. SO WHY NOT DANDELIONS?

By buying this pin you will be blowing your own dandelion seeds, an endless number of wishes into the world, to feed the hungry children, to find warmth for the impoverished young, and to FREE THE YOUTH.”

Contact me at area6@interact5170.org and/or sushileeee@yahoo.com to order these beautiful pins for your school. Each pin is being sold for $1. Email me with your school/area/# of pins.

Get at these 1.25 inch pins while they still last! :)

Piedmont Hill’s International Coordinator

Posted by Emily

Want to know more about Piedmont Hill’s International Coordinator position? Here’s a short message from their very own, Daniel Nghiem :)

Hi everyone! My name is Daniel Nghiem, and I am the International Coordinator of Piedmont Hills High School’s Interact Club. My job is to look after our International Child. Her name is C Harshani Kurrupurge A and we have been supporting her for 3 years. Harshani is 10 years old, and lives in the 3rd world country of Sri Lanka. Her birthday is March 20th, 2001. She lives with her mother and her brother in poor conditions. We support her in various ways.
My job, as the International Coordinator, is to help raise money for C Harshani and our international cause by running fundraisers. My goal this year is to donate 30 dollars a month towards helping her and her village. With any extra funds we gain from our fundraisers, we buy her gifts or we donate the rest to the international cause “Free the Youth.” Last month we did a fundraiser with Edgie’s. Edgie’s is a place where you can play pool and billiards; we raised over 500 dollars! With the extra money, we donated a goat to C Harshani for only 75 dollars. With the goat, her family and her village can benefit from the nutritious milk it provides. Keep an eye out for more fundraisers!
Another part of my job (my favorite part) is to keep contact with our international child. Harshani and I exchange letters on a monthly basis. She has taught us a lot of facts about her, and a lot about her culture. Some things I have learned is that she enjoys mathematics, survives primarily on a diet of rice and curry, likes to dance, and is currently writing essays for many scholarships. I really enjoy doing this because it really has taught me a lot, and the letters become more interesting letter after letter. Not only has she taught me a lot about her culture, this also gives me an opportunity to tell her a lot about are culture also. She isn’t only our child, she’s my best friend, and she makes me proud to be our schools International Coordinator.
If you would like to learn how you can support an international child as well, contact us through Emily!

Milpitas Food Pantry

Posted by Emily

A video made by Milpitas High School’s very own Andy Lien to show Milpitas Interactors helping out their local food pantry on October 22nd, an early Saturday morning. That morning Interactors helped wash cars, sort clothes, clean the facility, and distribute food to low income or homeless families. In three hours, Interact had helped 10 different families.

Enjoy! :)
