As a district, THOUSANDS of Rotarians and Interactors, will be walking across the Golden Gate Bridge and at the end they will be handing out FREE TSHIRTS and certificates.

A few hours later, they will be lighting the Ferry Building in San Francisco with the End Polio Now logo and the Rotary wheel. Not only will they be lighting the ferry building, right here in the bay area, but they will also be lighting the Coliseum in Rome, the Pyramids in Egypt, and the Parliament building in London!

You might be thinking…how am I supposed to get to San Francisco?! Well Rotary is providing FREE transportation from different places around the bay area, so don’t let transportation be your excuse to not attend this event!

Kidrageous Carnival

Posted by Holly

Calling ALL Interactors!

Regardless of Age, Size, Gender, Height, Location!

Jacob’s Heart Cancer Foundation, and Area 10 needs your help!

September 26th is the Kidrageous Carnival.

And what is this “Carnival” you might add? Aren’t I a bit too old as a high school student to attend such an event?

Nonsense I say! Well – yes, you may be a bit old to enjoy clowns and and such but that doesn’t mean you can’t contribute to the joy of others!

What is Kidrageous?

The Kidrageous Carnival is the 11th annual even hosted by Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services. It is an event dedicated to the celebration of life for children battling cancer.  Community business, individuals, groups and nonprofits come together to support children’s cancer awareness month by creating a carnival booth, sponsoring the event or sponsoring a booth in celebration of our brave children.  There is something for every age.

Where is Kidrageous being held?

Watsonville City Plaza Park; in the downtown of Watsonville, California.

When, and at what time is Kidrageous happening?

Sunday, September 26th 2010 from 12pm – 5pm.

Why does Jacob’s Heart put on Kidrageous?

In order to promote education and awareness on the issues that surround childhood cancer and celebrate the lives of our children, honor Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and to support our ongoing programs benefiting families in Santa Cruz, Monterey Southern Santa Clara and San Benito counties.

This year Interact District 5170 has been presented with a unique oppurtunity.

Jacob’s Heart has reached out to us, and offered us a free booth (considering we are a community orginization) at Kidrageous!

At this booth we can spread the word about Interact, gain community support, and meet the loving people of the world!

Considering Jacob’s Heart’s generousity towards us, I think it is only fitting that we extend a helping hand towards them!

We have been asked, (well I also volunteered us ;) ) to support Jacob’s Heart and the community by volunteering at Kidrageous!

This is a FANTASTIC oppurtunity for any interactor, any club, any area to come out and support a good cause.

This event also combines community service with fundraising!

At this event you can volunteer doing any number of tasks from helping setting up, manning the various booths and activity tables held (lego table, face painting, drawing, smoothie making, popcorn popping, twister, climbing walls, etcetera), passing out/posting flyers around your town and school, or CREATING and HOSTING your own booth!

There are unlimited oppurtunities to help, and anything you do makes a difference.

Keep in mind, that the head of Jacob’s Heart, Susan Osorio, is part of the Rotary – and her and her husband have both contributed greatly throughout the years to the Rotaries of District 5170.

Helping at this event would really honor the hard work that Susan does, and would make all of the Rotary and District 5170 proud.

Now this HAS been a very long post, but finally we are to the jist of it!

How can you help?

We need as MANY volunteers as we can get at this event!

We also would love if schools, area’s, people would create their OWN booths.

These can be anything (though run your idea by me so I can make sure someone else hasn’t taken it yet) from a popcorn stand, water balloon toss, guitar hero battle station, old fashioned photo booth, you name it!

Your options are limitless!

Your booth can either be free, or cost any determined amount (determined by you).

Keep in mind that if you DO charge, all money raised goes to Jacob’s Heart and not you.

Also note that Jacob’s Heart is a nonprofit orginization that benefits Kids in the bay area with cancer. It’s not like they take 90% of the money and keep it for themselves and only give 10% back. All money goes to these children.

So, without FUTHER ado PUHLESE visit this website:

www.tinyurl.com/KidrageousGroupVolunteerForm

to sign yourself, your group, your club, your school, your area up to volunteer!

There is also a space (optional if you don’t want to have a booth) where you can sign up for your own booth.

Whatever you do in your booth, is up to you to provide.

That means if you have a Guitar Hero Battle station, you have to provide the Wii and Guitar’s – though we’ll provide you with the heroes ;) .

You CAN however get sponsors, so say you want to have a popcorn booth – if you’re too broke to supply alla that food call up a local business and see if they would donate something to you!

All tables and banners (name of your booth) will be provided, THOUGH if you do have tables and chairs or canopys that you can use – try those because as of now we are limited on those supplies.

If you have ANY questions whatsoever feel free to email me at area10@interact5170.org.

Or for other places of reference you can visit the Jacob’s Heart website: http://jacobsheart.org/.
